چکیده
AIM Adrenal gland metastasis are the second most common type of adrenal mass lesions after adenomas and they could be related to numerous malignancies; Literature shows that adrenal metastasis deriving from colorectal cancer are very rare. MATERIAL OF THE STUDY A 71-year old - male patient, treated two years before with right colectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy for right colon cancer, came to our attention after the diagnosis at follow up, of a left adrenal gland mass; CT scan and CT - PET did not show other pathological findings. RESULTS The patient underwent left adrenalectomy with trans-peritoneal laparoscopic approach: the definitive histological examination diagnosed metastatic tissue of colonic cancer in left adrenal gland. CONCLUSIONS Adrenal gland metastases are common clinical entities, but which of them arise starting from colonic cancer are very rare and they are generally discovered about 1 year after the first diagnosis of cancer. Early diagnosis, laparoscopic radical excision when feasible and eventual adjuvant radio-chemotherapy are actually the proper clinical management of adrenal gland metastases finalized to better outcomes in terms of longer survival rate and quality of life. Transperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy for metachronous contralateral adrenal metastasis from renal cell carcinoma: a case report
BACKGROUND We report a case of metachronous solitary metastasis of renal cell carcinoma to the contralateral adrenal gland treated by laparoscopic transperitoneal adrenalectomy. CASE PRESENTATION A 58-year-old man presented to our institution for regular follow up, 2 years after a right radical nephrectomy with preservation of the ipsilateral adrenal gland, for a primary renal cell carcinoma....
متن کاملLaparoscopic Adrenalectomy for Large Adrenal Metastasis From Contralateral Renal Cell Carcinoma
We present herein the case of a patient with solitary metachronous contralateral adrenal metastasis from renal cell cancer. The patient had undergone left radical nephrectomy and adrenalectomy for localized renal cancer 7 years previously. Laparoscopic transperitoneal right adrenalectomy was performed. The postoperative period was uneventful. Histology showed right adrenal metastasis from renal...
متن کاملSurgical Treatment of Adrenal Gland Metastasis Originating from Small Cell Carcinoma of the Urinary Bladder
We report a rare case of a solitary adrenal metastasis from small cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder that was successfully treated with surgical resection. A 71-year-old man was suffering from bladder tamponade for hematuria. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a bladder tumor at the left wall. The patients underwent radical cystectomy. Histopathological results were obtained in small cell car...
متن کاملSolitary adrenal metastasis from invasive ductal breast cancer: an uncommon finding
BACKGROUND Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the breast usually metastasizes to the lungs, liver, bones and brain. Solitary adrenal metastasis is extremely rare. Due to the rarity of this condition, the optimal treatment is unclear. We report the first case of IDC of the breast metastasizing solely to the adrenal gland after a modified radical mastectomy but having a long-term disease-free sur...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Adrenalectomy for Bilateral Metachronous Aldosteronomas
INTRODUCTION Primary aldosteronism affects 5% to 13% of patients with hypertension. Idiopathic bilateral hyperplasia (IHA) and unilateral aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) are the most common types of primary aldosteronism. Bilateral APA is a very rare entity with only a few reports in the literature. We present the case of a patient with metachronous bilateral APA treated with metachronous b...
